Costa Mesa is a city in Orange County, California, United States. Since its inception in 1953, the city has grown from 16,840 residents living in semi-rural farming communities to the suburbs, including part of the South Coast Plaza – John Wayne Airport Edge City, one of the largest commercial clusters in the region, with an economy based on retail, commercial and light manufacturing. The population was 109,960 at the 2010 census.

Costa Mesa is 37 miles southeast of Los Angeles, California, 88 miles north of San Diego, California, and 425 miles south of San Francisco. The total area of the city is 15.7 square miles, of which 29% is water.

The largest shopping mall is South Coast Plaza, a shopping mall known for its architecture and scale. South Coast Plaza generates sales from 322 stores, making it one of the highest volume regional malls in the US. The South Coast Metro is a commercial, cultural and residential area surrounded by South Coast Plaza on Costa Mesa and south of Santa Ana, which in turn forms part of the South Coast Plaza. John Wayne Airport is on the outskirts of the city.

Some manufacturing activities also take place in cities, mainly in the industrial zone of the south-west, where several electronic, pharmaceutical and plastic companies are located. Business services company Experian is the largest employer in the city and is headquartered in Costa Mesa.

Ceradyne, El Pololo, Emulex, Hurley, RVCA, Toyota Racing Development, Trinity Broadcast Network, Vans and Volcom are Costa Mesa based companies. Local newspaper, Daily Pilot, published by the Los Angeles Times, is also located here.

Costa Mesa offers 26 parks, a municipal golf course, 26 public schools and 2 libraries.

The Orange County Fair is held in the fairgrounds of Costa Mesa every July. The fair receives more than one million visitors each year.

The annual Scarecrow and Pumpkin Festival was first held in 1938, with a break of 70 years, and then reopened in 2013.

Adjacent to the fairgrounds is the Pacific Amphitheatre, home to acts such as Madonna, Jessica Simpson, SteppenWolf and Kelly Clarkson.

The Segerstrom Center and the South Coast Repertory Theater are located in the city.

Costa Mesa became the home of the NFL Los Angeles Charger Training Center, the training camp and corporate headquarters since 2017. The team agreed to lease the facilities they moved to before moving from San Diego.
